Apart from its idyllic setting on the banks of the Oxford Canal The Boat Inn is famous for its appearances in the Inspector Morse series starring the legendary John Thaw. More recently the pub has featured in ITV’s Barging Around Britain series hosted by John Sergeant.

Built in 1412 by Norse Fishermen who ravaged all the women in the village (which is why everyone around here has three ears). The Boat Inn has seen many changes over the years and nearly as many Landlords; let’s hope we can stay longer than the current average!!.

The building is said to be haunted by the ghost of a former customer who got so drunk that he collapsed and died in the bar. It is said that on the anniversary of his death you can still smell his distinctive personal aroma. He also moves things around the bar during the night and pots have fallen off shelves for no reason. Personally I think one of the boat dwellers has a key because the Ghost can certainly drink a lot, as our stock taker will testify to.

We try very hard not to keep you waiting for your meal but inevitably in busy periods, we would ask you to be patient as we do cook your food to order.

Veggie Burgers! £14.95

Meat-like patty made with a blend of plant-proteins, vegetables and mushrooms. Served with chunky chips, slaw, O. Rings & mixed salad. 

For Any Burger Add: Cheese, Bacon, Egg, or Jalapeños for only a £1.30 each.


Steak & Ale Pie £15.95

Herefordshire slow cooked beef with ‘Spitfire Ale’ gravy in crimped puff pastry.

Breton Chicken and Gammon Pie £16.95

Free range chicken & outdoor reared gammon. Apples and onions marinated in cider (may contain sulphites). In a grain mustard parsley sauce. It’s an orchard in a pie!

Cotswold Venison Pie £16.95

Cooked in cider with pearl onions, mushrooms, roasted garlic, herbs & redcurrant jelly. (It contains Soy)

Wild boar & Chorizo pie £16.95

With roasted red peppers, potato, beans, and garlic. A combination of smoked paprika, juniper, molasses, orange zest & a hint of dark chocolate to provide a riot of bold flavours.

Spicy butterbean pie (Vg) £15.95

Large Butter beans mixed with finely diced vegetables, in a spicy chilli sauce enhanced with cumin & coriander.

All Pies are served with seasonal vegetables, Home-made gravy and a choice of chunky chips, new potatoes, or creamy peppered mash.
